Now we can confirm the following changes to each individual package from September 17:
DStv Access becomes DStv Starter
MultiChoice had axed various TV channels on this package in the last few months including KykNET Lekker, Mzansi Bioskop and Mzansi Music. Now under DStv Starter, consumers will be getting access to KykNET & Kie, Moja Love and Via.
Mzansi Wethu is also being rebranded to Wethu+ to give budget-conscious viewers a significantly better experience without requiring a pricier package. It will continue to feature content from Mzansi Magic while also offering a live football segment.
It is a core feature on the Starter package (R99/pm).
DStv Family and DStv Compact merge to form DStv Select
This will serve as the middle class package serving as the premier destination for local and family entertainment. Under this package, consumers will continue to view PSL, Mzansi Magic and Nickelodeon alongside the new Wethu+.
DStv Compact consumers will get basically nothing.
DStv Family consumers will be getting additional channels that had already been on DStv Compact this would include M Movies Stars, BBC Brit, Africa Magic Showcase and Food Network. While the overall package will be priced at R299p/m.
DStv Compact+ becomes two separate packages
DStv Sports is being positioned as the ideal destination for various sporting events including SA20, Premier League and ISL. This package is expected to select entertainment from Mzansi Magic and the upcoming M Movies+ channel.
This will be priced at R399p/m.
DStv Movies & Series is basically DStv Premium without the sports as it gives consumers an open window to M-Net's international series alongside the upcoming M Movies+ channel. It is also said to feature select sporting events which is PSL.
This will be priced at R500p/m.
DStv Premium remains unhinged with no word on DStv Easyview
Judging by the setup of DStv Compact+, it appears that DStv Premium is basically offering a discount to those who wish to subscribe to both Movies & Series alongside Sports. Initially, it was valued at R929 per month now it dropped to R800 p/m.
To most DStv consumers that is still expensive but then again it's a drop in rates as seen with DStv Family and Compact packages.
As for DStv Easyview on the other hand, MultiChoice doesn't mention anything about it and considering that DStv Access is known as Starter. I wouldn't be shocked if it got discontinued considering how depriortised it's been in recent months.
New channels on the cards
Not yet official but MultiChoice is expected to be rolling out 4 TV channels including France24, 3ABN Africa (allegedly), eMedia's eReality and eSeries channels. There's also word of two channels coming in place of CineMagic and Magic Showcase.
France24 is a premier, state-owned international news and current affairs television network based in Paris, France. Similar to BBC News or Al Jazeera, it delivers rolling global news coverage, breaking headlines, sports roundups, and cultural talk shows.
3ABN Africa is a global, non-profit Christian lifestyle television network. It broadcasts 24-hour religious programming, including Seventh-day Adventist sermons, Bible studies, gospel music, and family-focused healthy living/cooking shows.
eSeries focuses completely on scripted television dramas, comedies, and telenovelas. It acts as a catch-up or marathon viewing destination for both popular local South African soap operas and foreign drama series.
eReality is a highly popular commercial entertainment channel owned and operated by South African media group eMedia Investments. It broadcasts popular international and local reality series, medical and competitive talent shows.
