But the long awaited overhaul of the current DStv lineup is upon us, as some readers recall MultiChoice had an benevolent plan to save this offering. One of which included the possiblity of a dedicated package for its SuperSport offering.
With Canal+'s buyout of MultiChoice, I honestly thought they had forgotten about the whole restructuring plan. Then again, you have this whole mess with DStv Easyview and I'm still scratching my head on what they're gonna do there.
As seen on the image above, DStv had unveiled what appears to be the dedicated packages rumoured to replace their Access to Compact+ offering. This seems kind of odd to me as I kind of assumed Premium would be the fall guy in this situation.
But then if you're factoring SuperSport with the two M-Net premiums channels it makes a lot of sense.
For those struggling to keep up here I'll be brief with you on each individual package and which package I believe each offering will fall under:
DStv Premium
As I already mentioned, MultiChoice doesn't plan to pluck out a single hair of this package's head. Consumers are expected to continue enjoying premium sports from SuperSport and the latest international series from M-Net.
It will decrease from R929 per month to R799 per month so there's one added bonus there.
DStv Compact+ and Compact merge to form two separate packages???
Over the years, MultiChoice had widened a majority of channels from their Compact+ offering to Compact. On top of cancelling 1Magic, Compact+ wasn't worth the hype and had seen a lot of overlaps with Compact when it came with the content.
MultiChoice plans to address this issue by launching two separate packages each with different structure and pricing. I get the headline seems confusing to a lot of readers but it's like I'm telling you two separate packages come in place of the two.
Both packages will comprise of 115+ channels with different pricing.
Movies & Series is being positioned to become DStv Premium with select sporting events as consumers will be given access to M-Net's international catalogue and the upcoming M Movies+. Further indication that AddMovies add-on is being retired.
This offering will be priced at R500 per month.
Sports as the name implies will be home of premium sporting events as cricket is being highlighted for this package. Apparently, it will also package brands such as the upcoming M Movies+ and Mzansi Magic, no indication of M-Net.
This offering will be priced at R400 per month.
DStv Family becomes DStv Select
Similar to M Stars, MultiChoice is basically reviving their DStv Select offering within the South African market. Consumers on this package will now be in for a treat with the inclusion of Mzansi Magic and surprise surprise SuperSport KickOff.
This offering will be priced at R300 per month.
DStv Access becomes DStv Starter
MultiChoice announced that they'd be discontinuing KykNET Lekker, well consumers can forget about that as they'll be given three additional channels. This would include KykNET & Kie to replace KykNET Lekker alongside, Moja Love and Via.
This offering will be priced at R100 per month.
