Development Alert: Star Life, Moja 9.9., SuperSport Cricket And More TV Channels Debut On DStv Easyview Alongside Revamped Access, Family And Compact Packages

As reported, Canal+'s MultiChoice will be rebranding their DStv Access, Family and Compact packages to Starter, Select and Sports from September 17. This offering will be accompanied by additional channels for every DStv consumer.

BBC UKTV gets the premium stamp of approval

As reported, MultiChoice will be widening the reach of BBC UKTV to include DStv Premium while their Compact+ package is being discontinued. This channel is currently available to DStv Compact, Family, Access and EasyView customers.

BBC Studios' multi-genre channel BBC UKTV (DStv channel 134), launched in December 2023 and, according to the channel, has proven to be a channel of choice with subscribers to the DStv Compact, Family, Access and EasyView packages.

It offered programming seen on other DStv channels ranging from The Great British Bake Off and Rachel Khoo’s Kitchen Notebook to motoring shows such as Million Dollar Car Hunters and Top Gear, and series like Casualty, Doctors and My Family.

DStv Sports becomes the official home of Cricket

MultiChoice will be repositioning their DStv Compact package into a dedicated sports hub for the world's best football, cricket, local rugby, UFC and WWE action. They will be opening up SuperSport Cricket and SuperSport Extra to these consumers.

This means DStv Sports viewers will be given access to major cricket events including Proteas international tours, the ICC Cricket World Cup, and various global and local bilateral series (such as England vs. Pakistan or South Africa vs. Australia).

DStv Premium will continue to be the home of Formula 1, Moto GP, Golf, Rugby and Tennis so MultiChoice will be using SuperSport Extra to give DStv Sports access to select matches.

DStv Sports consumers will still be able to access Mzansi Magic and Nickelodeon the only difference now is the inclusion of sports. There's no need to change packages if you wish to view shows like like Spinners and The Loud House.

DStv Select gets History and Curiosity Channel

With DStv Sports no longer serving as the official home of Mzansi Magic and all the kids channels viewed on the platform. MultiChoice will be burdening the responsibility on the former DStv Family packages as initially reported.

The only difference now is that consumers on these packages will be getting the remaining the factual brands viewed on DStv Sports this would include History and Curiosity Channel.

History is described as the leading destination for factual series and specials that wrap historical knowledge in entertainment. Its programming slate includes shows like Storage Wars, The Curse Of Oak Island, American Pickers and Forged In Fire.

Curiosity Channel, founded by John Hendricks who also founded the Discovery Channel, is a factual entertainment channel. It offers original content with titles ranging from Deep Time History, The History of Food, Age of Big Cats and Breakthrough.

DStv Starter gets 10 additional channels

Formerly known as DStv Access, MultiChoice will be merging Mzansi Bioskop, Mzansi Music and Mzansi Wethu to form Wethu+. By dumping Mzansi from the name, they're hoping to remove the stigma of it being a repeats channel for Mzansi Magic.

They're offering DStv Select consumers access to PSL through the Wethu+ brand and alongside M Movies Legends will offer a variety of international and locally produced movies.

Other channels set to rollout on the package include Curiosity Channel, Discovery Family, Star Life, Africa Magic Family, DreamWorks and Cartoonito. This means consumers will be given access to shows like Zig & Sharko, Texas Metal and Jhanak.

This would join the already announced SuperSport KickOff KykNET & Kie (set to replace KykNET Lekker), Via and Moja Love channels.

DStv Easyview gets Moja 9.9.

With DStv Compact+ being laid to rest, DStv Easyview can breath another sigh of life as viewers will given access to Moja 9.9. Something in which MultiChoice never informed the press during their media conference for these new packages.

As reported, MultiChoice had depriortised DStv Easyview after removing it from their website earlier in the year (only to reinstate it but under the decoder section). This led to removal of channels such as Magic Showcase, CineMagic and Mzansi Music.

Similar to BBC UKTV, Moja 9.9. will find its way to more households as the channel has now been listed under Moja 9.9. for DStv Easyview consumers. This channel was available to only DStv Starter consumers for 5 years.

Moja Love is a spin-off repeats channel by Moja Love owners Siyaya TV as we already mentioned it gives an open window to shows from Moja Love. This would include Start Somewhere, Uyajola 9/9, No Excuses, Pay Papgeld and Rea Tsotella.

Church TV will also be added to DStv as a new channel and the second TV channel confirmed for the channel.

Absent from these announcements, France24, another upcoming TV channel slated wasn't listed on the DStv website as seen with Church TV. Other possible additions include eMedia's eReality and eSeries channels.
