A DStv Stream user was browsing the service and stumbled upon six packages: DStv Movie Bundle, Select Movies, All Sport, Value Sport, Deluxe Entertainment and Essential Entertainment.
At the moment no channels are listed on these potential packages/add-ons but if we had to guess:
• DStv Movie Bundle comprises of KIX, Studio Universal, Zee Cinema, SET Max and TNT while Select Movies offers only premium movie channels therefore replacing AddMovies.
• All Sport as the name suggests is basically DStv Premium with only sports channels while Value Sport could as well be for either football or non-football channels.
• Deluxe Entertainment is basically DStv Premium without sports which features M-Net, BBC Earth and Discovery Channel. Then there's Essential Entertainment likely catered for Family offers Universal TV, BBC UKTV and Discovery Family.
MultiChoice has also listed two other packages Showmax Plus which may not mean anything alongside production test bouquet.
At the moment these services can only be seen listed on the DStv Stream website and not the app. And while these packages are available in select markets, MultiChoice had experimented on such package in SA as DStv Flex.
Of course, it hasn't been disclosed as to why it never launched but this option was later revisited last year with no updates since then. It's likely that these test services are what has become of the offering.
Canal+ had talked about wanting to simplify packages and this current structure appears to be a reflection of that strategy. My guess is that DStv Access, Family and Compact are safe while other packages undergo massive restructuring.
These packages are likely going to cost a lot more than DStv Compact if you add sports and they'll be those consumers who would want to continue having both. Your best bet is that DStv Compact becomes that bridge that links the two.
