Former 1Magic Shows Now On M-Net

As consumers recall, MultiChoice and M-Net decided to do away with 1Magic a few years ago and consolidated it's offering under Showmax. With Canal+ that had shuttered the streaming service, all this content reverted back to DStv.

Because MultiChoice and M-Net decided to away with 1Magic and had no other outlets for the funnel of international content on Showmax. This led M-Net to license shows like The Real Housewives Of Atlanta, Bel-Air and Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

While local dramas like Red Ink, Youngins and Tracking Thabo Bester are on Mzansi Magic.

Canal+ is planning to deploy its own streaming app soon and to avoid losing potential clients bumped several Showmax clients to DStv Compact Stream. They created a dedicated hub for these Showmax programs on the DStv Stream app.

The problem part is that for DStv Compact Stream some of these international shows can't be found on there and would need a Premium subscription. The current ones available from Universal TV like FBI and Chicago Med are a few seasons behind M-Net.

Those who watch local dramas won't really mind all this but for those who tuned into Showmax for these other shows will likely want to subscribe to Netflix or Disney+ rather than missing select shows.

This move comes months after Canal+ renewed its distribution agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery for its 12 channels. Canal+ opted not to renew M-Net's content deal meaning consumers will miss out on the Harry Potter TV series.

MultiChoice and M-Net will also be shutting down it's CineMagic and Magic Showcase channels on DStv by the end of June.
