SPI International Rebrands As Canal+ Content Benelux & Central Europe

SPI International has been renamed Canal+ Content Benelux & Central Europe as the French media group further integrates the business into its international operations.

The rebranding reflects the company’s expanded role within Canal+’s regional structure, encompassing content development, channel management, streaming services and distribution across the Benelux, Central and Eastern European and Adriatic markets.

The former SPI International operates more than 50 television channels and two streaming services internationally, with activities covering content creation, acquisition, curation and distribution.

The new identity places the business more directly within Canal+’s regional operations, under the leadership of Erwan Luherne, Managing Director of Canal+ Content Benelux & Central Europe and EVP of Content and Publishing at Canal+ Benelux & Central Europe.

“The new name better reflects who we are today, our strategic focus, and our mission to deliver exceptional entertainment experiences to the wide audience, while remaining true to the Canal+ DNA,” said Luherne.

The company said the change would support its strategy of developing original content, television brands and streaming propositions for audiences across Europe and beyond.

Yassine Bouzoubaa, CEO of Canal+ Benelux & Central Europe, said the transformation would strengthen the group’s regional presence and content offering.

“This evolution reflects our ambition to further strengthen Canal+’s footprint and content proposition, and marks an important step in supporting our growth strategy across Europe,” he said.

SPI International, best known for its FilmBox channel brands and streaming activities, became part of Canal+ following the group’s acquisition of a majority stake in 2021.

The rebranding comes as Canal+ continues to consolidate its international businesses following its expansion in Africa through MultiChoice.

Canal+ now reports more than 40 million subscribers worldwide and operates in over 70 countries, with interests spanning pay-TV, streaming, content production and distribution.

The group also owns STUDIOCANAL and Dailymotion, alongside minority investments in Viaplay and Viu.
