Baby TV is a multilingual TV channel offering fun and safe content for babies, toddlers and preschoolers aged 4 and lower. These would include shows like Billy Bam Bam, Lola & Virginia, Charlie And The Numbers, Baby TV Jungle Book and Nursery Rhymes.
Disney acquired 21st Century FOX in 2019 and for sometime had distribution rights to Baby TV while the ownership remains with Talit Communications.
Most people are under the perception that due to its smaller age group that it competes directly with Nick Jr. and Disney Junior but that's not the case here. As Disney Junior and Nick Jr. target audience are preschoolers while Baby TV is for those who take their children to daycare.
If anything, the closest Baby TV has to a competitor is Candle Media's Moonbug although with the type of content they offer I wouldn't necessarily consider them competition. They're more like colleagues, you're good at problem solving and sharing a space that doesn't mean they're automatically friends.
As several viewers have seen in recent years, Disney had been winding down on Baby TV's operations in several countries including Japan, Brazil, France and Canada. A few months ago, Baby TV had closed its streaming service with further content now on YouTube and not on Disney+.
Viewers aren't really shocked by this considering that Disney had never tried integrating it within their operations. I can only assume it stems from the fact that they don't own the channel and even if they did how is there any guarantees that it would have gotten that much needed exposure.
Disney also had a stake in History's parent company Hearst Networks, they didn't even try to get the content in question on Disney+. When news had surfaced that they had pulled out from their venture in the company, it was probably a sigh of relief for most people involved.
By the time this report came out Baby TV continues to broadcast on StarTimes and Azam TV platforms across Africa. It's survival is likely dependant on remaining carriage agreement and for Baby TV there's a lot in place so hopefully this channel is lucky enough and makes it through 2030.
