Is Moja 9.9. Really A Permanent Fixture On DStv?

Siyaya TV and Canal+'s MultiChoice will be making Moja 9.9. which serves as a repeat spin-off channel to Moja Love available to DStv Easyview consumers. This channel initially catered for DStv Access (soon to be DStv Starter) and will soon be on all packages.

DStv Easyview consumers had already lost 3 TV channels within the span of 9 months including Magic Showcase, CineMagic and Mzansi Music. While MultiChoice had been sourcing alternatives for other packages, this is not the case for Easyview.

Consumers on these packages would lose content and if they're fortunate have another TV channel come in place. None of the content would be transferred elsewhere, think of when Easyview had Blackbelt TV, AMC and now TNT.

Moja 9.9. remainder on DStv could stem for multiple reasons.

Firstly, MultiChoice is currently revamping DStv packages and this is not a global switch but region to region. It could be that MultiChoice is waiting for other Southern African countries to revamp their packages before pulling the plug on Moja 9.9.

MultiChoice did warn the media of more changes and most of the changes happening at DStv targeted mainly M-Net and SuperSport. We can only assume the next phase will expand to possibly include Moja 9.9. and some third party brands.

MultiChoice had been developing TV channels in place of Magic Showcase and CineMagic. It could be that Moja 9.9. is buying time for these channels to officially rollout before saying sayanara.

If this channel is really being kept long term, it less likely that Siyaya TV and MultiChoice will keep the channel in its current structure as a majority of DStv consumers can browse shows on Moja Love.

Siyaya TV could transition Moja 9.9. into a Southern African tailored brand sourcing content from Botswana, Zimbabwe and Nambia seeing as Moja Love caters for South Africa. They did film the teen drama Sgela in Botswana a few years ago.

Before Siyaya TV created Moja Love, they were an educational brand producing various wildlife shows for Mindset, SABC and Prime Video under the corporate banner. This includes Come Wild With Us, Wildest Cape and Siyaya Africa.

MultiChoice mistakenly listed Moja 9.9. under the movie section of their website so they might as well make it into a dedicated movie channel if not general entertainment. Perhaps to fill the gap left by the former Magic Showcase and CineMagic brands.
