The show follows the life of Serhat Kılıç, a devoted businessman and father whose world is turned upside down after his wife falls into a coma. He soon discovers that his wife not only had a marital affair but also had another child whose father’s identity remains unknown throughout the series.
Serhat is portrayed as the perfect father and husband — not simply because he is rich and lives in a mansion, but because he manages to pull himself together despite all the obstacles he faces. He is passionate about what he does, knows his worth, and never tries to be someone he is not.
Within certain story arcs you see a man who is broken inside, and the series handles this well. Dealing with pain is okay. It proves you are human, and it is better to adjust to your current situation than to live in denial while others take pride in your misfortune.
Zeynep enters the story as what I would call a ray of sunshine — think Cinderella or Snow White. She is living in poverty and spends her time caring for those around her, both her own family and Serhat’s.
It is the small gestures that make Serhat fall head over heels for her. Both of them share a common ground: family. Both are willing to endure difficult situations if it means the people closest to them do not have to suffer endlessly.
These two are essentially a match made in heaven. The show reminds us that with pain there is always room for love. How often do you come across another Zeynep who does not let money define a relationship and treats your children as her own? And how often do you find another Serhat who is willing to love a woman that most would say lacks a wealthy family background?
Sins & Roses is not a family show. It targets married couples, divorcees, and people looking to embark on a new relationship. If you have watched 90 Day Fiancé on TLC or Love Island on M-Net, or if you tend to define your love life through television, then Sins & Roses is a must-watch.
I am not going to claim it is the best show on earth. But if you are currently going through one of these stages in life, Sins & Roses can serve as a reminder or a source of inspiration. In many ways, this is the kind of story that shows how people end up on Divorce Court or Cutler’s Court.
